Uue-Saaluse Winery

Location: the farm is located on the shores of the beautiful Alajärve lake, just 15 km from the town of Võru.

Maris and Mati Kivistik made their home in the farmworker's house of the Uue-Saaluse manor, which belonged to the famous von Maydell noble family, many years ago. Shortly afterwards, a sea buckthorn plantation was established in the same place, and today, in addition to sea buckthorn, dozens of different varieties of open field grapes are grown on the farm. There is an old apple orchard and many red and black currants grow here.

Fruit and berry wines are produced on the farm from local raw materials. The winemaker and sommelier, the hostess, experiments and tries to find just the right flavour and aroma for a wine made from both garden and forest berries as well as apples. The farm also offers seminar and catering facilities for up to 25 people.

Optional extra: a hike with a nature guide around Lake Kavadi on a 3.5 km trail.

TOUR OF THE UUE-SAALUSE WINERY

We offer a year-round educational "wine tour", where we learn more about the secrets of wine making, visit the wine cellar and then taste five (5) wines with snacks.

From May to October, we will also tour the highest berry plantation in Estonia (Servamägi, 222 m above sea level). You can enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the beautiful Lake Alajärv.

A farm shop is open where you can buy exciting wines.

Most of the wines produced on the farm bear the Vana-Võromaa trademark Uma Mekk. In recent years, the wines of Uue-Saaluse have received several awards, for example, in 2021, the quince sparkling wine was selected as the Best Estonian Food and in 2021, their grape wine won the gold medal in the Solaris competition for the Best Estonian Drink.

In 2019, the Estonian Farmers' Central Union recognised the farm with the title "Estonia's Best Alternative Farm 2019".

The Uue-Saaluse Winery's service "Wine tour in Uue-Saaluse Winery" has been recognised with the EHE (Genuine and Interesting Estonia) quality label for ecotourism.
