Saula Siniallikad (‘Blue springs of Saula’)

Three springs with the total flow of 20-30 litres per second emerge in the riverbed in Saula. Each of the springs can be characterized by its specific colour – greenish-blue, brownish-black and greyish-blue. Approaching the springs from the road, the first one appearing is the deepest with the depth of 4 metres. Other two are 2 metres deep. On the bottom of the most distant one from the road about 30 minor springs in the form of sandy spots constantly changing the shapes and sizes can be counted. The mineral matter suspended near the bottom determines the colour of the springs. The springs discharge water with the all-year-round temperature of 5 ºC into the Pirita River. The surroundings of the springs freeze only in very harsh winters. The spring water has been described as having remedial power to heal eyes.
